Energy and Our Environment ecoClips Video Challenge

Here's a contest - deadline is May 14, 2008

As part of SaskPower’s commitment to Environmental Responsibility- Shand Greenhouse is offering a new educational initiative called the Energy and Our Environment ecoClips Video Challenge. Over the last 15 years, the Energy and our Environment program has increased environmental awareness in Saskatchewan’s elementary schools. Shand Greenhouse has now expanded the program with a twist for high school students. After a successful pilot with the South East Cornerstone School Division, we are ready to go province-wide with the Energy and our Environment ecoClips Video Challenge. Students are invited to make a two to three minute video highlighting their perspective on important environmental issues. The student(s) with the winning entry will each receive a laptop computer, and through the help of our partner SCN (Saskatchewan Television Network) will have their work aired on television. Schools will win as well! The school of the winning student(s) will receive $1000 for video editing equipment. Please visit our web site at http://shand.saskpower.com/shand/ecoclips/index.shtml to see the rules and entry details as well as the winning video from our 2006 pilot.

Movie Maker links

Here are some links to resources we mentioned:

This one has downloadable titles and transitions.
I have tried some of the titles - they download and install automatically into the correct folder.

Adobe's Digital Kids' Club has lessons and ideas for projects. Some are specific to Adobe software (not Movie Maker), but the ideas can be applied to Movie Maker.

PSAa (Public Service Announcements) are great ways to relate video editing to curriculum.
Kathy Schrock's site has links to some examples of PSAs (professional and student created), as well as links to lesson plans.

Welcome

Welcome to PVSD's PD Academy Blog.
Our first two PD Academy sessions are on Oct 30 in Regina and Oct 31 in Wolseley.
The topic of these sessions will be GPS.
Ten participants at each location will learn about Global Positioning Systems in a hands-on session. At this blog, we hope to hear comments from the participants as well as Photostories of the photos that were taken at each coordinate location.
